The human Insulin-like Growth Factor-I Long Arg3 (IGF-I LONG R3) is an analog of human IGF-I with a 13 amino acid extension peptide at the Nterminus and substitution of Arg3 for Glu (hence R3) of IGF-I. It is found that this analog significantly more potent than the wild type IGF-1. The increased potency is due to the decreased binding of IGF-I LONG R3 to IGF binding proteins that normally inhibit the biological activities of IGFs. Recombinant Human Long-R3-IGF-I produced in Escherichia coli is a single chain, non-glycosylated, polypeptide containing 83 amino acids with a molecular mass of 9.1 kDa. This product is animal component-free and suitable for tissue culture uses.
